Why you should Think Big for your Small Garden

Many people mistakenly believe that if you have a small garden, there’s not a lot you can do with it. It’s just an outside space, perhaps just a yard, that you can use for the likes of bin storage, or perhaps to put a small amount of washing out on sunny days, right? Wrong. With a little imagination and thinking outside of the yard, your small garden can easily go big.

Choose a Theme

The best small gardens have big ideas. By this we mean it’s a really good idea to choose a theme which interests you and suits your style. This could be a theme such as an ‘urban jungle’, a ‘water garden’ or a ‘coastal garden’. By choosing a theme, you can turn an otherwise small, boring space into something with a lot of impact and interest.

Research your Options

One of the keys to getting a big idea to work in a small garden is to research the theme or your ideas and see what will work for you. For example, if your idea requires a lawned area, but you don’t have a huge amount of space for the lawn itself, or even to store a lawnmower, can you achieve the same effect with artificial grass? If you only need to turf a small space, this would be a very cost effective and low maintenance way of achieving the same look.

Contact an Expert in Landscape Gardening Services

Of course, the easiest way to get those big ideas into your small garden is to use experts in landscape gardening. A lot of thought needs to go into getting a small garden right – more so than in a large garden, which can naturally develop over time – and when it comes to landscape gardening ideas, it’s best to get an expert to help.

Landscape gardeners will be able to create a planting plan and will be able to implement any hard landscaping elements that you require too. Using their expertise will really bring your small garden to life and will create the desired effect in no time.

Think Big!

So what can you do with your small garden? There are so many big ideas waiting for you! How about a tropical urban jungle, which is full of lush green leaves and big vibrant blooms? Ask your landscape gardening company to pack the space with different layers of plants with a pathway through it, if space allows, to a secluded seating area.

Or maybe you’d like a secret garden feel? Include a rose arch and the likes of wisteria, along with lots of frothy greens and a quaint bistro set for alfresco dining on a small patio area.

And don’t forget that water features can easily be used in small gardens, whether you upcycle something like a butler sink to use in a quirky space or have a more traditional fountain.
