How to Keep your Lawn Looking Pristine this Summer

For garden enthusiasts everywhere, a lush, green, pristine lawn is often the pride and joy of their garden. It’s often the centrepiece which the rest of your garden grows around, so keeping it looking lovely and green is important as part of your landscape gardening. As experienced landscape gardening experts, we’ve seen our fair share of lawns over the years. Here’s how we keep our clients’ lawns green with pride.

1.      Water Correctly

The summer months can be the death of a lawn, yet it’s also the time of year when we most want to use and enjoy it. With this in mind, the best time to water your lawn is in the morning, which will allow the soil to absorb the water before the sun evaporates it. It also helps with the photosynthesis process and stops it from becoming too damp, which can cause disease.

It’s also important not to water it too frequently; a deep water two to three times a week will be enough during the summer months.

2.      Re-seed Bare Patches

If you have any bare patches, these will really detract from the overall lush, green lawn you’re trying to achieve. Therefore, reseed any patches which have become bare. Our top tip is to mix your grass seed with good quality top soil before applying to the bare areas of your lawn. Remember to spread the mixture evenly and keep it well-watered until the grass starts to grow.

3.      Mow at the Right Height

A common lawn mistake we all make is to mow at the wrong height. Raise the cutting height of your mower during the summer months and try to cut your grass every two to three weeks if the weather is dry. This will help to keep it looking neat and tidy.

4.      Weed Regularly

Rather than waiting until your lawn is covered in weeds, we would recommend controlling weeds as soon as they appear. It’s much better for your lawn to pull weeds out by hand rather than having to spray large areas with weed killer.

If you are in a position where there are too many to pull out by hand, try painting the weed killer onto the leaves of the weeds. Do this area by area rather than trying to treat the whole lawn in one go.

5.      Feed your Lawn

Feeding your lawn will really ensure that it stays looking beautifully green. Following the instructions on your fertiliser and using a spray or fertiliser spreader is the easiest way to feed your lawn and keep it looking its best this summer. Of course, if you’re not sure how best to go about feeding your lawn, ask experts in landscape gardening services to do this for you.
